Redesigning the core dashboard experience
For version 3.0, we rebuilt Akaunting's core experience around clarity over decoration: a dashboard that puts receivables, payables, and cash flow in one glance instead of three clicks, a grid system that replaced the old card layout to scale properly across devices, and small interaction decisions — hover-to-reveal line items, one-click favoriting — that quietly remove friction from a workflow people use every single day.

The system
Quicksand carries display type and headings, Mulish handles everything else — a full scale from Display 1 down to Extra Small Label, so every screen inherits the same rhythm instead of improvising sizes. Green anchors the brand as a ten-step tonal ramp, backed by dedicated error, warning, info, and "viewed" palettes so status is never guessed from a single color. The grid scales from 12 columns on Desktop HD down to 2 on mobile, with spacing standardized across eight fixed steps. Every input carries the same rules for state — normal, focus, error, disabled, optional, required — so a form built anywhere in the product behaves exactly like one built anywhere else.

Why it works
None of this is decoration — it's what makes a free, community-built product feel coherent at scale. Akaunting ships to thousands of businesses, built and extended by contributors who weren't in the room when these decisions were made. A documented type scale, a fixed color ramp, and one set of input rules mean the system holds together without anyone having to ask "what did we do last time."
